The Factors Influencing in the End-Results of Surgeal Treatment of Gastric Cancer

Abstract
A series of report from the Severance Hospital has summarized the epidemiologic aspects, the clinical experience and the treatment of the "Stomach Cancer in Korea". This report deals with the-factors influencing the prognosis of the gastric cancer after surgical treatment. We collected 332 cases of advanced gastric cancer that were operated before 1972 and,11 were over 5 years after gastrectomy and 29 cases of earrly gastic cancer that were diagnosed and treated from 1969 to 1975 at Severance Hospital.Of 332 cases of the advanced gastric, cancer, 78 cases were lived over 5 years after gastrectomy, of which 5- years survival rate was 23.5%. And of 29 cases of of early gastric cancer, no one was died from-the malignancy of the stomach at present.A number of factors have combined to produce a striking improvement, in the survival rate.But any, marked improvement in the prognosis for patient with malignant lesions of the, stomach requires early diagnosis and treatment.
The important factors that contribute to the determination of survival rates include;
1. The depth of infiltration and the regional lymphnodes metastases of the malignant lesions.
2. Age and sex.
3. The length of nthe interval between onset of the tumor and treatment.
4. The size of the tumor:
5. The location of the tumor.
6. Gastric acidity
7. Blood type of the patient.
8. The type of the treatment accorded to the tumor.
9. The nature of the tumor itself. They will each be discussed in detail.
